Great Christian Stories Student Workbook

Essential Literature for Christian Students

Edited by Joshua Schwisow

Student Workbook
7-9 Grade
Literature
1 Credit

In this course intended for the 7th-9th grades, students will read three classic works of literature written from a Christian perspective, including a classic novel, a classic allegory, and a classic modern biography.

Robinson Crusoe

Daniel Defoe's classic novel is a highly influential work of Christian literature. It is considered by many to be the first example of the realistic novel in English. This great story is filled with series of dramatic, moving episodes that will both entertain and instruct the student.

The Holy War

John Bunyan's allegory of the salvation of the Town of Mansoul is often overshadowed by his more well-known work, The Pilgrim's Progress. Nonetheless, this book stands as an important work in its own right. The Christian student will relate strongly to the goings on in Mansoul and Immanuel's siege on the city. This amazing story demonstrates Bunyan's masterful use of allegory to communicate Christian doctrine.

The Hiding Place

Corrie Ten Boom's biographical account of her life during World War II has become a modern classic. In The Hiding Place, Corrie recounts the stories of how her family sacrificed a great deal to save Jews from the malevolent schemes of the Third Reich. Corrie's life and the testimony of her family serve as a living example of standing fast for the faith against all odds.

Foxe's Book of Martyrs

A Christian family library of only four books would have to include an edition of Foxe’s Book of Martyrs. This is the history of God’s family, the church of the living Christ. To produce this highly readable edition, the editors have selected the most significant, informative, and essential testimonies available of true Christian martyrs throughout 2,000 years of church history.
