Alfred the Great and a young Saxon thane named Edmund defend Wessex against the Danish invasion. The longest book in the set, and a good first Henty for children ready for a full-length adventure.

Christie's Old Organ by Mrs. O.F. Walton (128 pages)
An orphan boy and an old organ-grinder keep hearing "Home, Sweet Home" and start asking where home really is. First published in 1874, it presents the gospel in language young children understand.
